If you support HCL Notes and Domino (formerly Lotus Notes and Domino) environments, you can get many great tips on how to be more productive and discover the wealth of features that only come with 25 years of software development. Follow HCL Digital Solutions’ Youtube channel. Here is one example: How to Delegate a User’s Mail and Contacts https://youtu.be/rEijwzyAshA
Watch for tips that your users might appreciate and share the videos with them.
I’m thrilled to share that HCL has brought over important content from IBM that was hosted in Domino!

- Notes/Domino Fixlist: https://ds-infolib.hcltechsw.com/ldd/fixlist.nsf
Note these are .nsf databases. Yes, Domino databases. I have asked if they will open it up to anonymous access with Notes clients like they had been in the past. Meanwhile, this is another accomplishment in the process of HCL invigorating the proof of the product. HCL will add the forums too after passing the privacy requirements; not a trivial task.
It never ceases to amaze me the incredible pace that HCL is working to advance Notes & Domino products. Case in point: Domino Query Language (DQL) is now an integral part of Domino V11. Taken from Deputy General Manager, Marketing at HCL Technologies, Jan Kenney’s post:
With v11, Domino Query Language (DQL) completed its consolidation of all means of searching Domino data, using full-text indices. Join this webinar on January 30th to learn all about it! https://lnkd.in/eeYYPXw
This is the new way to search in Domino from now on. Don’t let the rapid pace of technology leave you behind. You will want to listen in for this. Be sure to register even if you can’t attend live, so you will get the link to the replay.
A footnote: Once you register, you can also add the event to your Notes calendar. Choose the iCal option. Funny how HCL Notes is the only major email client to follow the industry standard format.
HCL has just launched their community that will serve as our new place to interact with HCL and other professionals that use their software. It’s already fast becoming a useful forum of information. Join the community and post your burning questions and be sure to contribute answers too. Here is the link.
I’m hoping HCL will integrate the aha Ideajam site into this forum (click here to vote for it) so we can have a similar scoreboard feature for contributing product ideas and add a Sametime chat community like we once had with IBM Greenhouse (click here to vote for ST chat) and integrate OpenNTF into this new HCL community. (click here to vote for OpenNTF integration) In an ideal world, this would become the homepage where everything else related to HCL collaboration software is linked. Here are the forums it has so far:
- Digital Experience
If ever there were a reason to attend a short conference related to Notes, Domino, Sametime, and Connections, this is the one. It will be the first public opportunity in the U.S. to hear about everything that is happening with the software and the company behind it since HCL acquired it from IBM at the end of June. And this year I will be the moderator for the “Ask HCL” session.
This is also one of the best opportunities to share your own professional knowledge with your peers. But the deadline is August 18th, so get it written up and submitted now! Here is the link. It doesn’t have to be perfect, but it can’t be considered if you don’t turn something in. The benefits of speaking go beyond free entry to the conference. Speaking at conferences and user groups is one of the leading activities considered when IBM and now HCL selects people for IBM Champion and HCL Master recognition. It’s great for the resume too.
It is not that HCL Masters are selected to be speakers.
It is that speakers are selected to be HCL Masters.

I want to draw attention to this particular article by Lifetime IBM Champion Gabriella Davis. If you work with IBM Notes/Domino (about to be HCL Notes/Domino), you will want to participate in this quick survey regarding optimizing the Discussion and Teamroom databases to the new mobile clients.
Good news with persistent chat and with eliminating WAS and DB2. Persistent chat is coming in V10. WAS and DB2 will be eliminated in V11 or V12. System Console is also eliminated in V10. V10 also supports login on multiple devices concurrently. It is worth listening to the replay (at 1.5x speed). Be sure to listen through the Q&A and the conclusion. There were many useful questions answered. The slide deck should be available in the replay too. But I think the two slides of most importance are these tables showing what features are coming in which release. (these folks are going to be busy!)
You should be able to watch the replay using the same

Did you know that if you have Notes licenses, then you also have Sametime Chat and online awareness…
If you don’t have Sametime Chat deployed in your environment, you may want to re-evaluate that. Start by watching the webcast tomorrow (May 23, 2019) to see what’s new and what is coming that YOU ARE ALREADY LICENSED TO USE.

Panagenda also has a free version of The software can be downloaded here:
It’s always been there, quietly doing what it does oh so well. So good that you probably forgot it’s there. The unsung hero. Watch…

The marketing might have taken a 2 decade break, but the software never did.
(Updated 3/21/2019) If you ever wondered why you should keep up to date with your server installations, this IBM Technote published today describes one really good reason. Less than a year ago Google announced they are deprecating Google Cloud Messaging (GCM) and have replaced it with Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM). Google will remove GCM support at any time on or after April 11, 2019 (3 weeks from today).
Why do you care? This service is used by IBM Traveler (server) to communicate with Android devices (Verse for Android). When Google made this announcement, IBM quickly incorporated the new service into the latest Android Verse app (V10.0.4) and the latest release of the Traveler server code stream (V10.0.1). NOTE: This is the Traveler version, NOT the version of Domino that Traveler is running on. Traveler V10.0.1 works on Domino 9.0.1. Yes, if you are running Traveler on Websphere, you still need to upgrade Traveler.
If you get automatic updates from the app store, you will already have this version of the app on your device. If you have automatic updates disabled, be sure to update this app before April 11, 2019. But Traveler on your server still needs to be upgraded.
If you are using IBM SmartCloud Notes (IBM Connections Cloud) for your email service, you have nothing to worry about. IBM already took care of it for you.
Read this IBM Technote for details.
